Phalaenopsis orchids, commonly known as moth orchids, are native to SouthEast Asia, including countries like the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. They are highly favoured among orchid enthusiasts and are often cultivated as indoor plants or kept as elegant house plants due to their stunning blooms.
Phalaenopsis orchids showcase large, vibrant and exotic flowers with a wide range of colour, including white, pink, purple, yellow and multi-coloured variations. The petals and sepals are often broad and rounded, giving the appearance of delicate butterfly wings, which is why they are called “moth orchids”. These beautiful orchids that last for a few months, are very popular with our customers. Giving a beautiful floral display to be enjoyed throughout your home, business or office.
Orchids grow with one or more stems with leathery green leaves at the bottom and a stunning display of flowers and orchid buds at the top of their stems. The perfect thing about orchid plants is that they flower all year round. The flowers can last for several years or months adding a touch of elegance and beauty to any space.
Phalaenopsis orchids come in a variety of sizes, from mini orchids to tall plants that are over 1 metre. One of the easiest varieties of orchid to grow in your home, Phalaenopsis orchids are often called beginners orchids because they are so easy to look after.
Plaza Hollandi are lucky to have many varieties of Phalaenopsis orchids available at our Garden Centre. With deliveries from our trusted suppliers every week.
Phalaenopsis orchids are generally considered low-maintenance making them a popular choice for beginners and experienced plan enthusiasts. These orchid plants love indirect sunlight. So find a special place to display your Phalaenopsis Orchids where they will not be in direct sunlight but still receive enough sunlight.
These orchid plants, originally from humid environments, thrive in warmer temperatures in the day and slightly cooler temperatures at the end of the day.
Watering your Phalaenopsis plants is not as tricky as it may seem. It’s best to water your orchid plants in the morning. We recommend watering them once a week as they do not like to be waterlogged. You can simply add one ice cube to the orchid plant or add a small amount of water to the roots. If for any reason your orchid plant begins to droop a little you can submerge the roots of the plant in water for 20 minutes and then place it back into the pot. This will help to rehydrate the plant.
As mentioned, Phalaenopsis orchids prefer humid environments. So a gentle misting of water every week will help to replicate this.
Regularly remove any yellow or damaged leaves and old flowers to keep the plant healthy and attractive. Maintaining good, light, watering practice and fertilisation will ensure your Phalaenopsis orchid will produce many beautiful flowers and bring joy to the surroundings.
Fertilise your Phalaenopsis plants whilst they are blooming. When they have finished flowering your orchid plant will hibernate. Continue to water the plant every few weeks and cut the stems that no longer have flowers on them. In a few months you will soon start to see new leaves and then new stems.
